The End of An Era…For Now

Hi everyone!

You probably haven’t noticed that I haven’t posted on here in about half a year because I was so sporadic to begin with. With growing my photography business, Kelsey Haley Media, I’ve been putting all my efforts into that and this little blog fell to the wayside.

I decided a couple months ago not to renew my WordPress plan, but to keep the domain alive. It just wasn’t worth it with how little I was posting.

So, I can’t put any photos in this post because I am way over my space limit.

For now, I think I’m going to start posting some of my personal fashion looks on my photography website blog.

So, you can keep up with me there and on me The Bohemian Dreamer, and more regularly my Kelsey Haley Media Instagrams.

Thank you for following along these last four or five years!

New Couch, New York

Hey guys!

This has been an exciting week for me. I was in New York City from Sunday to Tuesday for the UBM Women’s & Children’s fashion trade show. I went with Amy to pick out clothes and accessories for The Haberdash. It was such an awesome experience. When I started college I really wanted to be a fashion buyer because a Teen Vogue quiz told me it was my perfect occupation and it sounded awesome.
This weekend I got to live out that dream, and it was pretty dang awesome. Amy and I have really similar styles, so we loved all the same things.

This was the view from our hotel, The Yotel. It was only my third time visiting New York and my first time staying in the city, so it was surreal to see this view outside our window.

This wedding dress and hand painted leather jacket combo were in the vintage section of the show. We didn’t buy anything vintage, but we were all heart eyes looking at all of the beautiful pieces.

After the show Monday, we met up with Kat, who used to work in the shop before she moved to NYC. We walked around Chelsea Market, which was a really awesome collection of chain stores like Anthropologie, small shops with artisan products, and delicious eateries.

The last day of the show we had a meeting with my all-time favorite brand, Free People. Amy and I didn’t realize they were at the show until we came upon their booth. When we rounded the corner, we both looked at each other and screamed with excitement.
Unlike any other booth we visited, we had to make an appointment and fill out an application form for the shop. They accepted our applications, and we’re going to be carrying their line now! It was so exciting seeing all the new styles and choosing the pieces that would fit best in Haberdash.

We left early in the afternoon on Monday and made the trek back to MA.

As for the outfit pictures in this post, I just got in the beautiful lace top from one of my other favorite brands, Spell & The Gypsy. It’s sadly sold out now, but they have a bunch of other awesome tops to check out. I paired it with an old pair of BDG jeans that I never wear because they’re too small. It worked for pictures though. Somewhere, I have a new pair of mom jeans that do fit, but I could not find them today.
Also, I got the fabulous red velvet couch at an antique shop for only $150 last month and I’m still over the moon about it.

I hope you enjoyed this little recap!

Being Cool in The Cold

Sweater: H&M | Boots: Lucky Brand

It was cold AF today, but we (my dad and I) still managed to get some sweeet shots.
I got the boots and sweater from my lovely parents for Christmas.
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. Mine was great! We spent the day relaxing and enjoying each others company. At night we went to our neighbor’s house for our traditional game night. It was hilarious, as always.

This Christmas season has been especially creative for me. I’ve been embroidering, painting, and I even got my first 35mm film camera, the Pentax K1000! Today I developed my first roll of film. It was a stressful and terrifying experience due to my fear of the dark, but I managed to get a handful of good shots out of it!
It was a really rewarding process and I definitely want to keep experimenting with it.

These are some of my favorite frames from the roll. I was most excited about the cows, so I was really happy when I saw that they came out alright!

Have you tried anything new lately? Or are you planning on picking up a new hobby in 2018? Let me know in the comments!

Where Are My Winter Clothes?

KHM-9574KHM-9590KHM-9570KHM-9591KHM-9569KHM-9600KHM-9578For real though, I don’t know where my winter clothes are.

I think I may have cleared them out of my bureau at some point to make room for my summer clothes, but I have no idea where they went.
I especially need to find my boot stash. I’m hoping I didn’t give them all away because I fell down the stairs and tripped at least three times in these today.

I didn’t have my remote shutter with me for these pictures, so I used the Canon app, which is why I’m holding my phone in these pictures. I think it actually works for some of them though.

I’ve had a busy past week. The styled bohemian bridal shoot that I’ve been working on for the last few months finally happened! I’m really happy with how it turned out and will be blogging about it and releasing a vlog for it soon on Kelsey Haley Media.
Last Saturday I was the second photographer for a beautiful wedding on the cape in Harwich. It was possibly my first time going down to that area. My family always goes to the beach in New Hampshire, so I’ve never really spent time on the cape. Weddings are exhausting but so exciting at the same time. It’s kind of crazy to be let into something so special in someone’s life. But I’m so glad I get to help people hold onto that day.

Today I was doing a photo/video shoot for my dad’s business, Valley Transporter. We’re working on some content to promote rides to Bradley Airport for the holidays.

All in all, it’s been a good month. I feel so much better when I have tangible work to do. The month after I finished my weddings I was feeling a bit lost and unmotivated, but I feel like I’m starting to get into a groove again.

Let’s hope this keeps up!

The House of The Rising Sun

KHM-4641KHM-4682KHM-4709KHM-4727

Hey guys!

This shoot is from last month. I literally don’t know what I have been doing with my time. Like, I think I’ve been being productive but I don’t know for sure?
It’s weird not having a set work schedule anymore. I wake up late and don’t usually start working until the afternoon, which feels like a lazy person move, but then I wind up working until like 11 or 12.
So, I guess I’ve been doing stuff? I covered my first three weddings and edited each of them in a week, so that felt good. I finally got my wedding page and pricing done and created a pretty wedding guide pdf. That felt like a big accomplishment!
Since then, I’ve been working on a fun styled wedding shoot that I’m organizing. I’ve also been trying to create a lot of marketing materials.

I just finished this video today. It’s ridiculous, but fitting.

I’ve been trying to balance working and also having a life. Which isn’t that difficult because most of my friends are in eastern mass, so I don’t have a ton of people to hang out with. It has been nice being with my family again. Seth and I went rock climbing last night and then out for drinks. I tried to order my favorite go-to beer at the local bar and they don’t make it anymore, which is a real bummer.
But after that we went to UMass and snuck into Greeno sub shop, it was fun and delicious.

I got this dress a while ago for $12 at TJMaxx, which is crazy because it’s Free People! Also, I wore hair extensions here for the first time ever. I bought them last winter, but they wound up being only a few inches longer than my natural hair, so I didn’t really see the point.
For this look, I wound up clipping them halfway down my hair because sometimes you gotta make it work.

I mean, is this even a fashion blog anymore? Was it ever?
I’m just going to let it flow and see what happens!

Driving Up The Coast

KHM-8350

I spent most of yesterday and the day before working on photography stuff, so by 6 o’clock last night I was itching to get out of the house. We solved this by going for a scenic drive up the coast of New Hampshire.
It’s a beautiful coastline, and I like to pretend it’s Big Sur (I will get there within the next two years!). So, while that coastline is still a daydream, I’ll be enjoying this east coast.
The sun was hiding behind the clouds, which created an amazing sunset.
I had picked up a bunch of flowers at a market yesterday, obviously for taking pictures, and I’m so happy I did. I love finding ways to add pops of color to my photos.

After the drive, we came back to the house and hung out. Some of Seth’s friends came down and we had a seafood dinner. Then I crashed and went to bed because I am no longer capable of staying up late.

Tomorrow is my last day up here, but it gets me closer to the end of my job and moving! Two years ago after this vacation, I moved into my apartment. Now in a few short weeks, I’ll be moving out and starting my life as a full fledged photographer!

A Changing of Doors

KHM-8536

Hey friends!
There are some exciting things happening around here.
First, I put in my notice at my job! I will be leaving to pursue photography and videography and Kelsey Haley Media! I am so happy to be going after my dreams. I’ll be moving home and increasing my hours at my part time job to pull it off, but I honestly think it’s the right choice. I love my part time job and can still learn so much there. It’s always good to have more than one thing going on. Especially when you’re working for yourself, I think it’s great to have something on the side. It will get me out of the house and allow me to interact with people and still have coworkers that I love.
As for moving home, I’ll miss my apartment and my friends, but I’m happy to be closer with my parents. I go home almost every weekend to see them, so it will be nice to have them right there! I’m not going that far, so I’ll still be able to see my friends in this area.

Starting my own business has been such a cool process. I love being able to make my own decisions and create my own content. It’s boosted my confidence a lot. Seeing how much I’m capable of creating at my full time job has made me realize how much I could be putting into myself. I know that it won’t all be easy, buy it will definitely be worth it!

Another exciting thing, my brother Seth took all these pictures! I’ve been planning on training him to help me out on shoots. He doesn’t know how to control the camera settings yet, but he is a natural at framing and coming up with shots! I love these pictures so much, I almost wish I wasn’t in them so I could share them more! Does that make sense?
We had a ton of fun at this golf course. It’s not done being built, so we were able to run up to the top of the construction site and get these awesome photos overlooking the Holyoke Range. The light and flowers were so perfect.
Since this is still partially a fashion blog, my shorts are from Gap. Everything else is old and boring.

If you guys have any small business/creative Podcasts you love, let me know! Podcasts are one of my biggest sources of inspiration and motivation, so I’m always looking for more content!

And, if anyone would like to book a shoot, email me at kelseyhaleymedia@gmail.com!

Alpha Female

I’ve been feeling pretty crummy lately. I’m finally taking my antibiotics for my SIBO, so hopefully that will help. I finish them up tonight.
In better news, I got this shirt from Dazey LA! I think it;s pretty awesome. So awesome and comfortable, that I wore it three days in a row. I am gross and don’t care.
Also, my entire family told me that I need to stop wearing these shorts, so I finally got a pair that fits from the Gap. These are like two sizes too big, but that’s what makes them so comfortable!

I”m tired.

Abandoned Building

HELLO

I’ve officially given up on posting expecting anything more than once post a month on here, but that is fine by me! I’ve been posting weekly on the Kelsey Haley Media blog, so if you want to see what I’m up to, you can catch me over there!

I had my brother take these pictures of me. Seth is training to be my second shooter for weddings, and this was his first shoot. It think he did a great job!
He doesn’t know how to set up the camera yet, so this was more about framing. He’s a natural! Annd, now it’s creeping me this out to be this nice about him. LOL

Here’s a litte video showing how I edited them. I love watching things in fast motion. For a while I was watching hours of time lapse drawing videos on YouTube. I find them so relaxing.

If you’re wondering where this outfit is from, it’s all old and mostly from Marshalls. I pretty much spend all my money on camera equipment and other business expenses, so my wardrobe is not as up to date as it used to be.
